Experience wearable art!
As many fashion retailers know, the choice of accessories according to occasion -- from a professional workday to an elegant evening out -- can bring an outfit together. While my wearable art concept did not start from this objective, many women have commented to this effect regarding my wearable art pins.

My artwork actually started from small bits and pieces of illustration board left over from making animal shapes for a church childcare room. I had gessoed and acrylic painted and varnished those shapes, which were mounted on the wall to delight little ones for the years we remained at that location. Always fascinated with geometry, I thought I could do something more interesting than animal shapes although I do love animals!
For my first and prototype series of small geometric art pieces, I set myself some parameters. I would use 1- to 3-inch squares, triangles and rectangles as a base on which I would apply no more than two additional squares, triangles or rectangles. As a graphic designer, I work well within limitations and always set these as a beginning structure on which to build interest and express spontaneity. This was an experiment to see if the media worked and lasted and I envisioned going on to larger format pieces, which I later did using the stiffer foam core as a base instead of illustration board.
I chose a palate of fall colors, and set to work intuitively and in assembly-line fashion. The pieces virtually fell into place, quickly resulting in my first successful line of art pins.
Upon a friend´s recommendation and in time for Christmas, I made a simple template for a Christmas tree and did one line of dark green and one line of white trees decorated with colorful balls. These were quite well received as gifts and also sold well at fairs and bazaars. The small format for me is a way of working out my method and experimenting with form rather than of setting out to make wearable art, but I am glad some friends wanted to wear my art!
